Samsung's New T1 Portable SSD is the Size of a Credit Card By Dan Grabham on 21 Jan 2015 at 7:15AM
The first reviews of Samsung's Portable SSD T1 are dropping now and the impressions are that the miniature 30g drive is a speedy success. You do pay for that diminuitive size though, with the 250GB variant of the drive starting at £155. That's a good £65 more than you'd pay for the same capacity of Samsung's tremendous 840 Evo drive.
Transfer speeds are up to 450MB per second across USB 3.0. So much is packed into such a small space thanks to Samsung's 3D Vertical NAND (V-NAND) technology. You're also able to encrypt your data using AES 256-bit hardware encryption. It's also shock resistant while extremes of temperature can also be dealt with.
With just one password, the drive is safe from unwanted access thanks to . Unlike an external HDD, the Portable SSD T1 has no moving parts, so it can withstand bumps and drops and people don’t need to worry about the wear and tear on moving parts that can result in corrupted data. It is shock resistant up to 1500G/0.5ms and features Dynamic Thermal Guard, which will activate in extreme temperature conditions to protect the drive and any stored data – so you can rest easy knowing the drive can withstand even the toughest elements.
As you'd expect, the drive is fine with both Windows and Mac PCs, uses the exFAT file system, comes with a three-year limited warranty, and is available in 250GB, 500GB and 1TB capacities.
